Data Breach: Judge Approves $63 Million for OPM Hack Victims
One of the most controversial data breaches is coming to its conclusion after a seven-year legal battle in a newly released court order. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson gave preliminary approval for a $63 million settlement. Under the proposed settlement, victims who can prove that they suffered from financial losses due to the incident could receive at least $700 and with a maximum amount of $10,000.
In June 2015 Office of Personnel Management announced that its personnel records had been targeted by foreign government-backed hackers. This resulted in a catastrophic breach of personal information including check forms, Social Security numbers, and fingerprint information.
