US Privacy Law: Connecticut Data Privacy Act

On April 28, 2022, Senator James Maroney's SB-6, Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA), was passed by the Connecticut General Assembly. Its passing will strengthen data protection.

The bill will take effect on July 1, 2023, which will give businesses to provide an option for consumers an opt-out preference signals for targeted advertising and sales by 2025. Governor Ned Lamont is set to sign it and if successful it would pick up the momentum of California, Virginia, Colorado, and Utah for having an individual privacy law for their residents.

Microsoft 365 Users and Email Security Threats

The rise of employees working outside their office has resulted in an alarming increase of email related security threats. A 2022 Osterman Report was released for businesses to have better security against these threats, with 226 organizations with Microsoft 365 users as respondents.

  • 89% of organizations have experienced one or more types of email breaches in the past year.

  • For preventing threats, 76% said that they have used a third-party secure email gateway solution.

  • Resolving email breaches is also one aspect that was looked into and on average a company spends 175 hours per attack.

  • Email breaches cost US businesses $82,413 per year per 1,000 email users and UK companies $55,938 per 1,000 email users.
